IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team improved to 3-0, defeating Montana, 6-1 on Saturday in its first road match in Missoula, Montana.
Sophomore Elise van Heuvelen and senior Montana Crawford got the Hawkeyes started by defeating Julia Ronney and Natalie Joanlanne, 6-3, for Iowa’s first doubles victory.
Senior Anastasia Remichen and freshman Danielle Burich secured the doubles point for the Hawkeyes, topping Cat Orfanos and Eimear Maher, 6-4.
Senior Zoe Douglas and freshman Yufei Long left their match unfinished due to Iowa already earning the doubles point.
Long got the Hawkeyes started in singles by defeating Natalie Joanlanne in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. Reimchen followed with another straight set victory over Cat Orfanos, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4
Douglas clinched the win for the Hawkeyes, topping Cam Kincaid, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.
Van Heuvelen won a tough match in the No. 1 postion. Van Heuvelen won the first set, 6-4, and rallied after dropping set two, 6-2, and won the third-set tiebreaker, 11-9.
Crawford also won in a tiebreaker against Bianca Bostrom, 6-2, 7-6 (1) at the No. 5 spot. In the last match for the Hawkeyes, Burich forced a tiebreaker after dropping the first set, but ended up dropping her match to Eimear Maher, 5-7, 6-3 (6).

The Hawkeyes return to action Sunday against Washington State at 11 a.m. (CT) in Missoula, Montana.
