IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa Student-Athletes Academic Services has recognized junior Briana Guillory (Track) and freshman Spencer Lee (Wrestling) as January’s female and male student-athletes of the month.

The honor, voted by their peers, recognizes student-athletes who have excelled not only in their sports, but in the classroom as well.

Guillory, a native of Antioch, California, ran the fastest 400-meter time in the country at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational and currently ranks first in the Big Ten in the 200 meters (23.26) and 400 meters (52.57). In addition, Guillory currently sits fifth in the nation in the 400 meters and 12th in the 200 meters. She was named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 24.

Lee, a native of Murrysville, Pennsylvania, went 4-0 with three wins over top 10 opponents in January. In his debut match, Lee pinned Rayvon Foley in 46 seconds and has two decisions, one technical fall and one pin in 2018. Lee was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 23 and NCAA Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 24.

Guillory and the Hawkeye Track and Field team head to the Tyson Invitational, hosted by Arkansas, and the Iowa State Classic in Ames this weekend.
