IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa junior Megan Gustafson has been named to the Citizen Naismith Trophy Late Season Top-30 Team, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Monday. The award honors the nation’s top player.
The Naismith Awards Board of Selectors will identify the 10 national semifinalists on Feb. 26. Four finalists will be revealed on March 14. The Citizen Naismith Trophy will be announced on March 31. Gustafson is one of four Big Ten student-athletes included on the list (Kelsey Mitchell, Katelynn Flaherty, Kaila Charles).
The Port Wing, Wisconsin, native is averaging 24.8 points, 12.8 rebounds, and shooting 66.2 percent from the field in 26 games this season. In 13 conference contest, Gustafson averages 27.5 points and 13.3 boards. She is shooting 63.3 percent from the field and 85.6 percent from the free throw line in conference action.
Gustafson and the Hawkeyes return to the court on Sunday, hosting Wisconsin in their annual Pink Game in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. (CT). All fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for youth (18 & younger), and free for UI students.
