IOWA CITY, Iowa — For the second straight week, University of Iowa junior Megan Gustafson has been named the Madness Big Ten Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, College Sports Madness announced Monday.
 
College Sports Madness identifies the players who have had the greatest impact to their team from each conference and on a national basis each week. It is Gustafson’s third College Sports Madness honor of the season (Jan. 1, Feb. 5).
 
The Port Wing, Wisconsin, native averaged 29.0 points, 15.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and shot 74.2 percent from the field and 92.3 percent from the free throw line in a pair of Big Ten wins last week.  
 
She led all scorers with 33 points on 13-of-19 shooting in Iowa’s win over Penn State on Feb. 9. Gustafson grabbed 14 rebounds and dished out a career-high seven assists against the Lady Lions. She registered 10 points and four rebounds in the fourth quarter to seal the win for the Hawkeyes.
 
On Feb. 11, Gustafson netted a game-high 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting (83.3 percent) from the field in Iowa’s win over Northwestern. She grabbed 16 rebounds in the contest to register her 24th double-double of the season. Gustafson netted 14 of her 25 points in the second half to seal Iowa’s 20th win of the season.
 
Gustafson is the only player in the nation averaging 24 or more points and 12 or more rebounds per game. She is ranked in the top-8 nationally in nine statistical categories. Gustafson leads the nation in points per game (24.8), total points (646), and field goals made (251), ranks second in double doubles (24), third in rebounds (333) and field goal percentage (66.2), fifth in rebounds per game (12.8) and defensive rebounds per game (9), and eighth in free throws made (144).
 
Gustafson and the Hawkeyes return to the court on Sunday, hosting Wisconsin in their annual Pink Game in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. (CT). All fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for youth (18 & younger), and free for UI students.
