Hawkeyes Host Cornell College on Tuesday at Duane Banks

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa baseball team hosts Cornell College on Tuesday at 4:05 p.m. (CT) for its home opener at Duane Banks Field. It is $2 Tuesday, including $2 tickets and hot dogs.

The Hawkeyes are 5-1 overall after taking 2-of-3 games at the All-State Sugar Bowl Baseball Classic Series in New Orleans last weekend. Iowa won the opener against Virginia Tech, 2-1, in 10 innings, and it defeated tournament host, New Orleans, on Sunday, 8-2.
 
Tuesday’s game will be the first regular season contest for Cornell this season. The Hawkeyes are 60-10 all-time against Cornell. The Rams finished 19-20 in 2017, finishing 12-8 in the Midwest Conference.
 
The Hawkeyes will start freshman left-hander Trenton Wallace for his first career start. The Rock Island, Illinois, native is 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA over 1 2/3 innings. Wallace allowed one run on one hit and fanned two in his lone appearance Feb. 18 against Old Dominion.
 
The Rams will counter with junior right-hander Zachary Greenwald. The Dubuque, Iowa, native started 12 games last season and was 2-4 with a 4.38 ERA. He tallied 13 strikeouts and 16 walks.
