IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa Student-Athletes Academic Services has recognized sophomore Jordan Bohannon (men’s basketball) and junior Megan Gustafson (women’s basketball) as February’s male and female student-athletes of the month.
The honor, voted by their peers, recognizes student-athletes who have excelled not only in their sports, but in the classroom as well.
Bohannon, a pre-business major, averaged 10.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and a team-best 5.3 assists in the month of February. In addition, Bohannon earned honorable mention All-Ten honors and ranks second in the conference in free throw accuracy (.901) and assists (5.25), and is tied for first in 3-pointers made (2.9 per game). Bohannon made 34 straight free throws from Jan.4-Feb. 25 to tie the late-Chris Street’s record set in 1993. He missed the potential record-breaking free throw on purpose, saying after the game that, “it wasn’t my record to have.”
Gustafson, a business major, helped Iowa post a perfect 7-0 record in February, averaging 29.6 points and 14.1 rebounds. She shot 68-percent from the field and was named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Year by Big Ten media, becoming the first Hawkeye to win the award since Tangela Smith in 1998.
Gustafson and the women’s basketball team awaits its seeding for the upcoming NCAA women’s basketball tournament, announced Monday, March 12.
