IOWA CITY, Iowa — Two University of Iowa relays — the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle — and junior Jack Smith have qualified for the 2018 NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships. The competition will be held at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis from March 21-24.
It is the first time since 2012 that Iowa has qualified a freestyle relay for the NCAA Championships.
The Hawkeyes’ 200-free relay, which boasts the 16th-best time in the country at 1:17.50, will compete on Thursday, March 22. The 400-free relay, which sits 18th-best nationally at 2:51.58, will swim in the final event of the championships on Saturday, March 24.
Smith, who is an NCAA qualifier for the second time in his career, will also compete in the 100-yard freestyle Saturday. The Stroke-On-Trent, England, native has 28th-fastest time in the event this season at 42.71 seconds.
