IOWA CITY, Iowa — For the second straight week, University of Iowa freshman Bennet Huang has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Huang helped the Hawkeyes to a 405.950-400.750 upset victory over the No. 6 Golden Gophers on Sunday in Carver-Hawkeye Arena, winning the all-around title with a career-high 79.950. The freshman registered six top-10 finishes, including a second-place finish on pommel horse (13.650).
Huang is ranked 10th nationally on the all-around (78.300 national qualifying average), 17th on floor (13.917 NQA), and 22nd on pommel horse (13.450 NQA).
This is the second Big Ten Conference weekly honor for Huang and the second for the Hawkeyes this season. Senior Dylan Ellsworth and Huang were named Big Ten Gymnast and Freshman of the Week, respectively, on March 5.
The eighth-ranked Hawkeyes travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, to face No. 2 Nebraska and No. 6 Minnesota in their regular season finale on March 24.
