IOWA CITY, Iowa — Eight University of Iowa athletics programs are among the NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics programs singled out Wednesday by the NCAA for Academic Progress Reports (APR) in the top 10 percent of all teams in their specific sport. The Hawkeye men’s gymnastics team earned a perfect multiyear APR score, while the men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s gymnastics, women’s basketball, women’s golf and volleyball teams were honored with perfect single year APR scores.
“This is a terrific way to end what has been a very successful year academically for Iowa student-athletes,” said University of Iowa Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services Liz Tovar. “We are proud to maintain high academic standards which are reflected in our GSR rate of 90%, overall cumulative departmental grade-point average of 3.0, and now by our outstanding Academic Progress Rate. Not only does this announcement recognize that we are retaining and graduating our student-athletes at a high level, but it proves that the academic resources and support we provide student-athletes are effective in helping them thrive in the classroom.”
Every NCAA Division I institution calculates an APR for each athletics team each academic year. The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance.
