IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa sophomore rower Contessa Harold has been named Big Ten Conference Co-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Harold is the first Hawkeye in program history to earn the conference honor. She shares the award with Michigan’s Kendall Brewer.
“Contessa being named the Big Ten co-athlete of the year is well earned,” said UI head coach Andrew Carter. “She was named the outstanding player at our team awards and she had done extraordinary things to lead this team. She has redefined the standards of what is capable of this program. She is one of the best performers in this conference, and to be recognized is fitting and special for this program.”
Harold earned first team All-Big Ten honors following Iowa’s record-breaking performance at the 2018 Big Ten Championships, and she is leading the Hawkeyes to the NCAA Championships for the second straight year.
Iowa competes at the 2018 NCAA Rowing Championships on May 25-27 in Sarasota, Florida.
