Mayhew Earns National Player of the Year Recognition

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa softball commit DoniRae Mayhew was named the 2018 Schutt Sports/NFCA Junior College National Player of the Year, the NFCA announced Tuesday.
 
Mayhew, a native of Bettendorf, Iowa, batted .446 with 79 hits, including 18 doubles and an NJCAA-leading 30 home runs for Kirkwood Community College in 2018. She led Division II with 90 RBIs and was second in slugging percentage (1.079) and runs scored (82).
 
The sophomore also led the Eagles in the circle, holding a 20-3 record and 2.08 ERA while tallying 127 strikeouts in 148 innings.
 
Mayhew will join newly hired head coach Renee Gillispie. Gillispie comes to Iowa after 18 years as the head coach at UCF where she accumulated a 625-403-1 (.608) record and five conference titles.
