TOLEDO, Ohio — The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team won the Big Five meet with a season-high score of 196.450 on Friday night inside the Huntington Center.

Iowa defeated Nebraska (195.900), Penn State (195.700), Maryland (195.500), and Michigan State (194.525).

Junior Clair Kaji set a career-high on bars with a 9.900 and guided Iowa to the second-highest bars total in program history with a 49.375.

Junior Charlotte Sullivan competed in the all-around for Iowa for the first time this season. Sullivan finished fourth with a final score of 39.100.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

Beam
Iowa opened with a 49.050 on beam. Senior Misty-Jade Carlson started the event off with a 9.725. Junior Clair Kaji led Iowa on the event with a 9.875, winning her first event title of the day.

Floor
Iowa moved to floor on the second rotation. Iowa tallied a 49.175 behind 9.900 efforts by Kaji and freshman Lauren Guerin. Guerin’s score was her third consecutive 9.900. Kaji and Guerin shared the event title.

Vault
Three GymHawks tied or set new career-high scores on Iowa’s third rotation. Sophomore Emma Hartzler tied her career-high with a 9.725 in her third vault of the season, freshman Bridget Killian’s 9.825 set a new career-high, and junior Charlotte Sullivan tied her personal best with a 9.825. Iowa found itself in third place with a 147.050 after three rotations.

Bars
The GymHawks stood out and above the rest of the competition on the final rotation. Iowa’s 49.375 is the second-highest bars score in program history. Kaji and senior Nicole Chow both set 9.900s as Iowa took control of the event and the competition, finishing with a season-best 196.450.

All-Around
Sullivan placed fourth overall in the all-around with a 39.100, falling .100 off of her career high set against BYU on Feb. 25, 2017.
