Snezhko Impresses at Spartan Invite

EAST LANSING, Michigan — The nationally-ranked University of Iowa men’s tennis team sent Matt Clegg, Will Davies, Nikita Snezhko, and Joe Tyler for their first individual action of the fall season at the Spartan Invite at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.

In singles action, Snezhko picked up the lone Hawkeye victory in the first round, winning in straight sets over Marquette’s Luis Heredia( 6-4, 6-4). Freshman Clegg fell in his first collegiate match to Luke Smrek from Marquette in a tight match (7-5, 7-6). Davies and Tyler advanced via bye in singles. 

In the first round of doubles, the duo of Clegg/Snezhko lost to Heredia /Smrek, 6-4. The Hawkeye tandem bounced back for a win over Big Ten foes, Keene/Campbell of Michigan State, 7-6(3). Davies/Tyler took care of business in the second round, bouncing Michigan State’s Gates/Pero, 6-1.

FORMAT
There will be one draw of 16 doubles teams from each school. Teams will start by playing a 6-game set of doubles, followed by a five-minute break and then two singles matches with a 10-point breaker in lieu of a third set. The doubles team from each school that wins two out of three matches will advance to the next round. Losing teams will be guaranteed a minimum of three singles and three doubles matches.
