IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team is headed to Norman, Oklahoma, to compete in the ITA Regional Championships this weekend.
Freshman Erika Dodridge, sophomores Michelle Bacalla and Cloe Ruette, juniors Danielle Bauers, Danielle Burich, and Ashleigh Jacobs, and senior Elise Van Heuvelen Treadwell are set to compete.
“We are all really excited to get to regionals,” said Bauers. “We have been training hard and had an intense week of practice so far and last week. Everyone is ready. I think everyone is excited.”
The tournament takes place Thursday through Tuesday with matches being hosted by the University of Oklahoma at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
“Regionals is always a great test during the fall season. It’s a tournament you have to play well in because you have the best players in the region, and ultimately everyone is working hard to advance to nationals,” said head coach Sasha Schmid. “I think we will have a lot of great competition. We are trying some new doubles teams, so it will be kinda fun to see how that turns out. With only three fall tournaments it is nice to compete again and have an opportunity to test ourselves outside of practice.”
A live stream of the six indoor courts will be available at PlaySight. Outdoor courts are not streamed.
