IOWA CITY, Iowa — Eighty-seven University of Iowa student-athletes have been named to the 2019 Big Ten Fall Academic All-Conference team. The list includes student-athletes from football (31), women’s soccer (19), women’s cross country (16), field hockey (11), men’s cross country (7), and volleyball (3).
Soccer’s 19 honorees and women’s cross country’s 16 selections are both program records, while the field hockey team’s 11 honorees are the most since 2012 (12 honorees).
The Big Ten Conference recognized 1,385 fall sports athletes. The list includes 120 field hockey players, 489 football players, 117 men’s and 205 women’s cross country runners, 99 men’s and 233 women’s soccer student-athletes and 122 volleyball players.
Forty-three honorees posted unblemished grade point averages, including Iowa’s Jenny Cape (women’s soccer), Hannah Drkulec (women’s soccer), Matt Fagan (football), Kaleigh Haus (women’s soccer), Zoey Slettehaugh (women’s soccer), and Isabella Solaroli (field hockey).
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on a varsity team, as verified by being on the official squad list as of November 1 for fall sports, who have been enrolled full time at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
