Brittany Brown Ready to Rep Team USA

IOWA CITY, Iowa  — Former University of Iowa All-American Brittany Brown has added red, white, and blue to her wardrobe in 2019.

Brown represents Team USA at the 2019 World Championships next week in Doha, Qatar. She is racing the 200 meters beginning Monday, Sept. 30. The semifinals are Oct. 1, and the finals are Oct. 2.

Brown was an 11-time All-American for the Hawkeyes from 2014-18. She is a Big Ten champion and school record holder in the 200 meters (22.30). She graduated in 2018, and qualified for the World Championships in July at the 2019 World Team Trials.

It is a path she never saw coming.

"When I was here as a student I was just running," Brown said. "I didn't think I would be able to reach this level, but now that I am I'm grateful and thankful for all of the support Iowa gave me."

Since earning a spot on Team USA, Brown has been training in Iowa City and making trips to Europe. Earlier this month, she won the 200 meters at an event billed as “The Match,” a track meet in Belarus pitting Team USA against Europe.

“I am building off of that. A win always makes you a little more confident going into your next race. I felt really good coming off the curve,” Brown said. “It’s always a good feeling to put on that USA uniform and run for your country. It gives you a little bit more confidence going into the World Championships.”

Brown is joined on Team USA by former teammate and NCAA champion Laulauga Tausaga, who will throw discus for Team USA  in the qualifying round Oct. 2.

The 2019 World Championships are Sept. 27-Oct. 6 at Doha, Qatar. More information can be found on iaaf.org.
