IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa softball team’s Lauren Shaw has been named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. It is the junior’s first weekly honor of her career.

“I’m very proud of Lauren and her performances over the weekend. It’s great to see her throw two-complete games and dominate in them after being out a full season last year,” said UI head coach Renee Gillispie.

The LaGrange, Ohio, native starred in the circle for Iowa during the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. On Feb. 16, Shaw tossed a six-hit shutout and compiled a career-high 10 strikeouts in a win over Georgia Tech. On Feb. 15, Shaw struck out eight Boston College hitters and allowed one unearned run on three hits in Iowa’s 4-1 victory. Shaw recorded two wins over the weekend, moving her record to 5-1 on the season.

Shaw and the Hawkeyes take the field again on Friday against Portland State and UMKC. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. (CT) at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.
