THIS SEASON
On Thursday, March 12, 2020, the Big Ten Conference announced the cancelation of all conference and non-conference competitions through the end of the academic year, including spring sports that compete beyond the academic year, and participation in all NCAA tournaments and competitions. The NCAA followed suit, canceling all NCAA Winter and Spring Championships.

The  decisions were based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat and to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic.

The University of Iowa women’s tennis team finished the season with a 6-6 record and a 1-0 mark in Big Ten play. Iowa had won four of its last five before the season ended.

LEADING THE WAY
The Hawkeyes were led by senior Elise van Heuvelen Treadwell, a three-time All-Big-Ten selection. She led Iowa with a 10-1 singles record, the best start for a Hawkeye since Sonja Molnar went 11-1 in 2010. She had seven wins in a row at No. 1, a career-long win streak.

BIG PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Elise van Heuvelen Treadwell was named the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week on March 3, her second career weekly honor and first for Iowa since she won the award in 2017.

NAME IN THE IOWA RECORD BOOKS
Elise van Heuvelen Treadwell ranks eighth in career singles victories with 76 wins. She is tied for 10th in career doubles victories with 68 wins. She ranks ninth in overall victories with 144 wins.

She ranks fifth in singles win percentage (.650) with a minimum 100 matches, fourth in doubles win percentage (.630) with a minimum 100 matches, and fifth in overall win percentage (.640) with a minimum 200 matches.

TWICE AS NICE
Danielle Bauers and Ashleigh Jacobs lead Iowa with seven doubles wins, four of which came together. They led the team in the fall with a 4-2 record, and were 2-2 playing together a year ago. The Hawkeyes were 5-0 this season when winning the doubles point.

HAWKEYE NEWCOMERS
The Hawkeyes welcomed two newcomers; freshman Erika Dodridge from Bournemouth, England, and sophomore Samantha Gillas from New Braunfels, Texas this season.

Dodridge won the D draw at the Gopher Invitational this fall, and finished the spring with a 1-1 record in singles. Gillas is a Virginia Tech transfer. She did not compete this spring.
