CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The University of Iowa softball team defeated Northern Iowa, 2-1, in extra innings on Friday night at the Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex.
Denali Loecker got the start on the mound pitching five innings while allowing only one hit. Loecker went 1-for-2 and drew two walks at the plate.
Breanna Vasquez notched the win after entering the game in the bottom of the sixth. She struck out six batters to shut the door on the Panthers.
In the top of the ninth Kalena Burns notched the game winning RBI after hitting a single down the left field line to score Brylee Klosterman and put the Hawkeyes on top.
