Hawkeyes Win 4 At Charlotte Invite

Charlotte, N.C. – Three University of Iowa women’s tennis student-athletes ended the first day of the Charlotte Invite with a combined four victories on Friday at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

Starting the day with doubles, Pia Kranholdt and Anya Lamoreaux made their Hawkeye debuts bouncing Narboni/Jennings of South Carolina (6-3). Kranholdt then paired with Vipasha Mehra and defeated Penn State’s Dorner/Girbau (6-1).

In the first round of singles, Mehra beat Ioana Gheorgita of Penn State in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). Lamoreaux defeated Chloe Narboni of South Carolina (6-3, 6-4) to continue the winning streak. Wrapping up singles competition for the day, Kranholdt fell in a third set tiebreaker to Emma Van Poppel of Charlotte, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(6).

All three Hawkeyes will compete in day two of the tournament on Saturday with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles.
