IOWA CITY, IOWA – The University of Iowa head coach Jeff Garbutt added 33 student-athletes to the roster on Friday.
With a young roster, the Hawkeyes are looking toward improving and building skills. The team looks to finish the fall season strong, setting them up for a successful spring season.
HEAR FROM HEAD COACH GARBUTT
“We are excited to welcome our largest walk-on class in recent history. Our walk-ons are the life blood of Iowa rowing, and we are fortunate enough to have a large group of athletes that want to be Division-I athletes. It is one of the unique aspects of the sport that we can turn versatile athletes into rowers. This group has brought a lot of energy so far this season, and we are excited to see how they progress in their next four years here.”
The 33 student-athletes named on Friday went through the tryout process and made the team. The new Hawkeyes got their first experience of racing against Indiana this past weekend. These first-year athletes will get another chance to race at home when Iowa hosts the Iowa Chase, Oct. 19 on the Iowa River.
