GUADALAJARA, Mexico – The University of Iowa women’s golf team closed out play at its spring opener at the Collegiate Invitational on Saturday at the Guadalajara Country Club. The Hawkeyes finished 11th overall in the highly competitive field with a 920 (313-299-308) total.
The Hawkeyes completed the second round, playing the final nine holes before closing out play with the final 18. Iowa shaved 14 shots off its score from round one to round two, carding a 299 before firing a 308 over the final 18 holes.
Senior Paula Miranda paced the team, tying for 36th with a 227 (79-70-78) total. The Puebla, Mexico, native carded her best round of the weekend in round two, finishing with a two-under par 70, courtesy of three birdies and 13 pars. It was Miranda’s team-leading fourth round at or below par this season.
Miranda played the final 10 holes at two-under par in round two.
Benites tied for 38th, one shot back of Miranda, with a 228 (79-73-78). The Trujillo, Peru, native had a pair of birdies during her second round to go along with 12 pars.
No. 12 Florida State won the tournament, finishing with an 854, shooting 12-under par. The Seminoles’ sixth-ranked Mirabel Ting earned medalist honors after shooting a 12-under par 216.
