Iowa vs. Northwestern Postgame Notes

Iowa (6-2, 3-1) defeated Northwestern (3-5, 2-3), 48-7, Saturday at Kinnick Stadium. The 48 points are the most scored against Northwestern since defeating the Wildcats 62-10 in 2002. Today is also the largest margin of victory since that 2002 contest.
Iowa is bowl eligible for the 13th time in 14 seasons.
Iowa’s 48 points scored is a season high, and the most points scored in a Big Ten game since Nov. 19, 2005 against Minnesota.
Iowa allowed 75 yards passing, the eighth fewest in a single game in the Kirk Ferentz era.
Iowa outscored Northwestern 24-0 in the first quarter. The Hawkeyes have outscored their opponents 66-14 over the last three games. Iowa’s first five games, the Hawkeyes scored 21 combined first quarter points.
First-quarter total yards favored Iowa, 146-12. First-half total yard favored Iowa 298-55.
Iowa scored 52 combined first-quarter points in its last two home games.
Iowa scored 38 first-half points in each of its last two home games.
Iowa has scored 30 or more points in three consecutive games for the first time since opening the 2011 season with four straight games with 30-plus points. The last time Iowa scored 30-plus points in three consecutive conference games was 2010 (Michigan, 38; Wisconsin, 30; Michigan State, 37).
LB Ben Niemann blocked a Northwestern punt in the first quarter and returned it for a touchdown. It was Iowa’s first block punt since Purdue in 2011 (Kyle Steinbrecher), and Iowa’s first punt block returned for a touchdown since Eastern Illinois in 2010 (Paki O’Meara, block and return).
INDIVIDUAL SUPERLATIVES
QB Jake Rudock connected with WR Matt VandeBerg on a 42-yard flea flicker to move into ninth place in career passing yards (3,947). Rudock finished the game 12-of-19 for 239 yards and one touchdown.
LB Travis Perry started at linebacker in place of LB Reggie Spearman. It was Perry’s second career start. He finished the game with five tackles, tying a career high, and his first career sack.
DT Louis-Trinca Pasat recorded three sacks today, a career best.
RB Jonathan Parker returned the opening kickoff 54 yards, a career long.
SS John Lowdermilk forced a fumble in the second quarter, the first of his career.
K Marshall Koehn connected on field goals from 48 and 24 yards. Today was his first career game with multiple field goals. He has made seven consecutive field goal attempts. He was perfect on six PAT attempts.
RB Akrum Wadley recorded his first career carry today. Wadley finished the day with 106 yards on 15 carries. He is Iowa’s first 100-yard rusher since RB Jordan Canzeri rushed for 165 yards at Purdue in 2013. Wadley had runs of 23 and 26 yards. He is the first Iowa running back this season to have more than one rush of 20-plus yards in the same game.
RB Akrum Wadley is the first Hawkeye with 100+ rushing yards in a player’s first game with a carry since Brandon Wegher in 2009 (vs. Iowa State).
WR Matt VandeBerg recorded a career high in catches (5) and receiving yards (90), both game highs.
RB Mark Weisman rushed 20 times for 94 yards and three touchdowns. He scored multiple rushing touchdowns (8, 14, 8) for the fifth straight game. He has nine career multi-touchdown games. He has rushed for at least one touchdown in six straight games, and has 18 touchdowns over the last 12 games.

MILESTONES
RB Mark Weisman has 13 rushing touchdowns this season, a single-season career high (8 in 2012, 8 in 2013), and the fifth most by a Hawkeye running back in single-season history. He has 29 career rushing touchdowns, the third most in program history (Shaw, 33; Banks, 33) and the most in the Kirk Ferentz era.
RB Mark Weisman has 2,311 career rushing yards on 519 career carries. He passed Shonn Greene and Ronnie Harmon for eighth place among Iowa’s all-time rushing leaders.
RB Mark Weisman scored 18 points today, raising his career total to 180, the 12th most in program history.
WR Kevonte Martin-Manley caught three passes for 66 yards. He has 158 career receptions, passing Kevin Kasper for No. 3 on Iowa’s all-time list. His 1,618 career receiving yards rank No. 16 all-time.
QB Jake Rudock threw one touchdown passes today to raise his career total to 28, the ninth most in program history.
MISCELLANEOUS
The Hawkeyes scored a touchdown on their opening drive for the second straight game and third time this season (Northern Iowa, Maryland, Northwestern).
Northwestern won the toss and deferred to the second half. Iowa has received the opening kickoff in 7-of-8 games this season. In 16 seasons as Iowa’s head coach, Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeye received the opening kickoff in 157-of-195 games (94-63).
The Hawkeyes have played 51 consecutive games without a missed or blocked PAT, the longest streak of any school in the nation. Iowa has converted on 153 consecutive PATs during the streak.
