DURHAM, North Carolina — The 23rd-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team fell to No 2. Duke on Sunday, 4-2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue Devils scored twice in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the break. Duke scored on a penalty stroke in the 28th minute and added another goal off a rebound in the 32nd minute. Sophomore Sophie Sunderland got the Hawkeyes on the board in the 48th minute off of a corner to make the score, 2-1. Duke regained its two goal lead in the 48th minute, making the score 3-1. Freshman Nikki Freeman cut the Blue Devils lead in half in the 50th minute when she deflected Lucie Daman’s shot off a corner. The Blue Devils scored in the 51st minute to secure the 4-2 victroy and improve to 10-2.

  • Senior goalkeeper Katie Jones made eight saves in the loss.
  • Freeman’s goal marks the first of her career.
