Dear Hawkeye Fans,
I am excited to share that the Iowa Athletics Department is participating in the NCAA House settlement, marking a significant step forward in supporting our student-athletes and enhancing our athletic programs. This landmark settlement allows us to share revenue directly with our student-athletes, ensuring they receive benefits generated by their exceptional brand and built by their talents and hard work.
We are eager to embrace the new era of opportunity for Iowa Athletics and are committed to participating at the maximum revenue-sharing level. By expanding our revenue generation opportunities -- including the Flight Funds -- we are not only enhancing our financial stability but also reinforcing our commitment to the well-being and success of our student-athletes. Hawkeye fans have always shown their commitment to our young men and women, and that continued loyal and generous support is critical as we move forward.
Revenue Sharing for Student-Athletes
With the approval of the settlement, Iowa Athletics will allocate a portion of its annual revenue to directly benefit our student-athletes. These payments will be in addition to the world-class education and other benefits that Iowa student-athletes receive.
As part of the revenue sharing initiative, Iowa Athletics has established a cap management structure that includes designated general managers for each sport program, Marcus Wilson, executive senior associate athletics director for cap management & administration, and Scott Brickman, the department's general manager for NIL and strategy through a partnership with Altius Sports Partners, to review and approve all agreements. Additionally, Scott Pioli, a former NFL general manager and front office executive with more than a quarter-century of experience at the highest levels, was retained last fall by the department in preparation for revenue sharing and will continue to work with our programs.
Innovative Revenue-Generating Opportunities
To further strengthen Iowa Athletics' financial position and to allow for revenue-sharing, Iowa Athletics is creating innovative revenue-generating opportunities including:
- Creation of FLIGHT Funds: Flight Funds are a new charitable avenue that allow donors to invest in student-athlete revenue sharing and help Iowa build championship-caliber programs. These funds will support revenue sharing for football, men's basketball, women's basketball and men's wrestling, along with a general support Flight Fund. Contributions to the Flight Funds are tax deductible (please check with your tax advisor) and count towards athletic ticket priority points but not towards I-Club seating or parking requirements.
- Enhanced Sponsorships and Partnerships: Expanding the network of corporate sponsors and partners will help increase sponsorship revenue and create Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities for all Hawkeye student-athletes. Iowa Athletics will continue to explore additional corporate naming opportunities.
- Unique Hawkeye Fan Experiences: Working with each sports program, Iowa Athletics will look to create unique and exclusive opportunities that provide fans with the ability to secure behind-the-scenes experiences with our student-athletes and coaches and will help raise additional revenue.
Our focus remains on creating an environment where our student-athletes can thrive academically and athletically. We are confident in our ability to position our programs for success as we compete for championships in this new era. Alongside our passionate fans, dedicated campus leaders, and coaches, the Hawkeyes are ready to rise in this moment. Together, we are building a stronger, more resilient Iowa Athletics program that will continue to excel on and off the field.
Thank you for your continued support, and together we Fight for Iowa!
