IOWA CITY, IA – Four-time Hawkeye letterman Jim Jensen has been selected Iowa’s honorary captain for Saturday’s contest against Michigan State. The Hawkeyes face the Spartans in a televised game with kickoff set for 11:02 a.m. in sold out Kinnick Stadium.

Jensen was a 6-4, 222-pound halfback from Davenport, IA from 1972-1975. He still ranks as the 15th best rusher in Iowa football history with 1,661 yards. He had a career total of 367 rushes for a 4.5 yard average and nine career touchdowns. He was Iowa’s leading rusher as a sophomore and junior. He played two years under Frank Lauterbur and two under the late Bob Commings.

Jensen, a multi-sport athlete, was also a four-year letterman on Iowa’s track team (1973-76). He was a hurdler under the late Coach Francis Cretzmeyer.

Jensen was selected in the second round of the 1976 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He also played for the Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers. He played for the Broncos in the 1977 Super Bowl against Dallas. His NFL career began in 1976 and ended in 1982.

Jensen will accompany the Iowa captains to the center of the field for the pre-game coin-flip. He will also be with the Hawkeyes on the sidelines and in the locker room before and after the game.
