at World University Games (2017) — Went 1-0 with a 8.10 ERA in two starts… earned the victory over Russia (8/22), allowing three runs on three hits over 5 1/3 innings… had seven strikeouts to one walk… started the gold medal game against Japan (8/29).

2017 — Went 0-0 with a 4.74 ERA in 11 appearances… had 16 strikeouts in 19 innings… logged a career-best four innings in the Big Ten Tournament against Minnesota (5/27)… scattered five hits, fanned four, and didn’t allow a run… scattered three hits in three shutout innings against Rutgers (4/23)… tossed three innings, allowing two runs on five hits against Lehigh (3/12)… had a career-high five strikeouts without issuing a walk.

2016 — Missed the final month of the season because of injury… went 1-0 with a 0.79 ERA in eight appearances… had 12 strikeouts to three walks in 11 1/3 innings… tossed two shutout innings, fanning two, in his first career Big Ten appearance against Illinois (4/9)… earned his first career victory, throwing two shutouts innings and fanning one against Milwaukee (4/6)… threw 2 1/3 innings against Northwestern College (3/8), allowing three hits and striking out three… made his collegiate debut against Indiana State (2/26), striking out the only batter he faced.

High School — Two-time All-State Super Team selection… two-time first-team all-state, first-team all-district, first-team All-MVC Conference, and first-team all-metro honoree… tabbed as the 2015 U.S. Marine Corps Male Athlete of the Year… competed in the Senior All-Star Game and on the Japan-Metro Team… named the Class 4A Pitcher of the Year as a junior… two-time Metro Sports Player of the Week honoree… was the KCRG Athlete of the Week as a junior… went 8-0 with a 0.70 ERA with 72 strikeouts over 50 innings as a senior… allowed 28 hits and issued nine walks… hit .364 with 25 RBIs, three home runs, and a .468 on-base percentage… went 8-1 with a 1.45 ERA over 58 innings as a junior… had 53 strikeouts to 12 walks… finished his career fourth all-time with 22 victores in school history… helped team to a pair of state semifinal appearances (2012, 2015) and two conference titles (2012, 2014)… also was a second-team all-district quarterback, finishing second all-time in single season touchdown passes and fourth all-time in career touchdown passes… was a four-year academic athlete honoree… high school coach was Brett Hoyer.

Personal — Born Nov. 5, 1996… son of Jim and Deanne Lizarraga… has an older brother, Jimmy, who was an honorable mention All-Midwest Collegiate Conference catcher in 2015 at Mount Mercy… majoring in sport and recreation management.
