IOWA CITY, Iowa – The No. 9 University of Iowa men’s gymnastics team upset No. 6 Minnesota, 405.950-400.750, snapping Minnesota’s five meet win streak, in a tri-meet with Air Force (388.600) on Sunday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes team score marks a new season-high.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
The Hawkeyes took the lead in the first rotation and never gave it up. Four Hawkeyes registered six career-best scores as Iowa won five event titles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Floor: Senior Dylan Ellsworth led the way for the Hawkeyes, earning a 13.650 and finishing third. Sophomore Brandon Wong notched a career-best 13.500 and finished fifth, while sophomore Andrew Herrador notched a season-best 13.450 and tied for sixth. Redshirt senior Mark Springett earned a 13.400 and tied for eighth. Freshman Bennet Huang registered a 13.300 to round out the top-10.
Pommel Horse: Senior Austin Hodges won his seventh event title this season, registering a 14.100. Huang and senior Elijah Parsells tied for second on the event with a 13.650. Sophomore Nick Merryman earned a 13.300 and finished sixth, while junior Kevin Johnson notched a 12.700 and tied for eighth.
Rings: Junior Jake Brodarzon won his third event title this season with a 14.000. Freshman Addison Chung earned a career-best 13.800 and tied for third. Springett notched a 13.600 and finished sixth, while Ellsworth registered a 13.500 and tied for seventh.
Vault: Ellsworth won his seventh event title this season with a 14.750. Chung registered a career-high 14.450 and finished second. Huang earned a 13.950 to finish sixth, while Brodarzon recorded a career-high 13.800 and finished eighth.
Parallel Bars: Hodges won his second event title of the night with a season-high 14.300. Huang notched a 13.400 and tied for eighth. Brodarzon notched a 13.300 and tied for 10th.
High Bar: Herrador registered a season-best 13.750 and finished second, while Chung notched a career-high 13.650 and finished fourth. Hodges earned a 13.300 and tied for sixth followed by Huang who recorded a 13.000 and tied for eighth.
All-Around: Huang won his fifth event title of the season with a career-high 79.950. Ellsworth finished second with a 79.600.

“Today went almost exactly as we had planned it to go. We came out and found our rhythm. We made some adjustments to the lineups that worked really well. We hit pretty much everything we did. We counted a couple of falls here and there, not eight like the previous weekend. The score showed that, the confidence level showed that, and the improvement showed that. We’re getting some really good things happening consecutively over the weekends. We did what we needed to do to keep progressing forward at this point in time. I’m very happy with the performance.”
