IOWA CITY, Iowa — The 17th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team was edged, 3-2, in overtime by New Hampshire on Friday evening at Grant Field.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawkeyes got on the board first, scoring in the ninth minute. Sophomore Sophie Sunderland tallied her first goal of the season, tipping in Lucie Daman’s shot off of a corner to give Iowa a 1-0 lead. Iowa held on to the 1-0 lead going into halftime. New Hampshire evened the score in the 43rd minute. Rachel Thomas put the Wildcats on the board after receiving a pass in the center of the circle.
 
New Hampshire took a 2-1 lead in the 54th minute. The Hawkeyes responded with sustained pressure, earning four penalty corners. Sophomore Katie Birch scored her sixth goal of the season on Iowa’s final penalty corner to tie the match at, 2-2, in the 65th minute. The match remained tied at, 2-2, after 70 minutes forcing sudden victory overtime. New Hampshire received two straight penalty corners and scored on the second to win the match, 3-2.
