ON THE MAT
The seventh-ranked University of Iowa wrestling team travels to Ames, Iowa, to face Iowa State on Sunday in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series.  The dual begins at 2 p.m. (CT) inside Hilton Coliseum. 
    Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for youth (high school age and younger). 
 
DAN GABLE TRAVELING TROPHY
The Iowa-Iowa State wrestling rivalry introduced the Dan Gable Traveling Trophy in 2010.
    In a joint collaboration, the schools announced the winner of the annual dual would take possession of a trophy representing Iowa State’s former two-time NCAA Champion and Iowa’s 15-time NCAA championship coach. 
    Iowa has won every meeting since the trophy’s inception (7-0).

THE SERIES
Iowa leads the all-time series, 63-16-2. The Hawkeyes have won 13 straight, 28 of the last 29, and 52 of the last 56 meetings. 
    Iowa has won the last six meetings in Ames, and has not lost to Iowa State on the road since Dec. 7, 2003 (21-13).
    Iowa State’s last win in the series was 19-16 on Dec. 5, 2004, in Iowa City. 

IOWA CORN CY-HAWK SERIES
The Cy-Hawk Series is in its 14th season in 2017-18, and is sponsored for the seventh time by Iowa Corn.
    The Hawkeyes lead the season series, 9-8, having secured wins in soccer, football, women’s basketball, and women’s swimming and diving.   
    The all-time series is tied, 6-6-1. The Hawkeyes won last year’s series, 20-7.
     Iowa wrestling owns a 12-1 lead in the Cy-Hawk Series duals. The Cyclones won the first meeting in 2004, and Iowa has won the last 12. (Iowa has won 13 straight overall, including a meeting at the National Duals.)

IOWA NATIVES
The Hawkeyes have five native Iowans in their probable lineup, including Paul Glynn (Bettendorf), Carter Happel (Lisbon), Brandon Sorensen (Cedar Falls), Mitch Bowman (Donahue), and Cash Wilcke (Battle Creek).
    The Hawkeyes have 14 total Iowa natives on their roster. The Cyclones have 20. 

CY-HAWK EXPERIENCE
Senior Brandon Sorensen is making his fourth Cy-Hawk Series appearance. He defeated Gabe Moreno in 2014 (7-6) and 2015 (11-3), and Chase Straw in 2016 (11-3). 
    Four more Hawkeyes have Cy-Hawk experience. Sophomores Michael Kemerer (W, 8-7), Joey Gunther (W, 3-2), and Cash Wilcke (L, 4-3) each made their Cy-Hawk debut last season. Junior Sam Stoll did not compete last year, but he earned a fall (3:30) over Quean Smith as a redshirt freshman in 2015.

BRANDS 12, IOWA STATE 0
University of Iowa head coach Tom Brands is 12-0 all-time against Iowa State. During that stretch, the Hawkeyes have won by an average of 14.8 points per dual, outscoring Iowa State, 312-134. The slimmest margin of victory over the last 10 meetings was an 18-16 win in Ames in 2009. The largest margin of victory was a 32-3 win in Iowa City in 2012.

UNDEFEATED WRESTLERS
Iowa has two wrestlers entering Saturday’s dual with undefeated records. They include sophomore Michael Kemerer (19-0) and redshirt freshman Alex Marinelli (13-0).
    In the history of Iowa wrestling, 15 wrestlers have finished the season with a perfect record (minimum 20 matches). Four of those wrestlers were able to perform the feat twice. They include Mark Ironside, Lincoln McIlravy, T.J. Williams and Jim Zalesky. Iowa coaches Tom Brands and Terry Brands are among the 15 wrestlers. Tom went 45-0 in 1990-91 and Terry went 35-0 in 1991-92.

LEE AND MARINELLI CLIMB RANKINGS
True freshman Spencer Lee and redshirt freshman Alex Marinelli have steadily climbed the national rankings since entering the Iowa lineup.
    Lee made his Hawkeye debut Jan. 5 against Michigan State and opened the dual with a fall in 46 seconds against Kayvon Foley at 125 pounds. He is 13-1 with five falls, five technical falls, and seven wins over ranked opponents. He debuted in the rankings Jan. 9 at No. 9. He has since moved up to No. 3 (Intermat).
    Marinelli made his collegiate debut Dec. 8 at Rutgers. He has since gone 13-0 with two pins, seven wins over ranked opponents, and winning the Midlands championship at 165 pounds. He entered the Intermat rankings Dec. 12 at No. 13. He has since climbed to No. 2. 

22 STRAIGHT FOR KEMERER
Sophomore Michael Kemerer has won a career-best 23 straight matches dating back to last season’s NCAA tournament. Kemerer is 19-0 this season with seven pins. Kemerer had four pins all of last season in 36 matches. He has twice this season been named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week. 
    Five of his seven falls have come in the first period. Kemerer earned the Most Pins/Fastest Time award at the 2017 Midlands Championships. He pinned four opponents in a total of 9:54. 
    Kemerer is 19-0 for the second straight season. He opened his redshirt freshman year with 19 consecutive wins. 

HEAVY LIFTING LIGHTWEIGHTS
Tom Brands has 203 wins in 226 duals since taking over the Iowa program in 2006-07. In those 226 duals, the Hawkeyes’ 125-pounders have a combined record of 202-24 (.893). 
    The Hawkeyes’ starting 125-pounder (NCAA qualifier) has a 310-34 overall record (.901), and a 189-12 (.940) mark in duals over the lasts 12 years. Nine of the previous 11 NCAA qualifiers have earned All-America honors (two NCAA titles, four finals appearances).

UNDEFEATED FRESHMEN
Redshirt freshman Alex Marinelli and North Carolina State’s Hayden Hidlay (redshirt freshman) are the only two freshmen (redshirt and true) still undefeated in all weight classes (minimum 10 matches). Marinelli is 13-0 and ranked No. 2 at 165 by Intermat. Hidlay is 18-0 and ranked No. 3 at 157.
