Busy Homecoming Week

Sept. 29, 2003

It’s a very busy week on the University of Iowa campus and for the Iowa Hawkeyes because, in addition to the many routine activities carried out each day of each week, students and student-ahtletes know it’s also Homecoming Week.

Iowa’s volleyball, soccer and football teams all have home competition scheduled for Homecoming Week, 2003.

Most fans of the Hawkeyes know the “main attraction” is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. inside legendary Kinnick Stadium when Coach Kirk Ferentz’s Iowa Hawkeyes square off against nationally ranked Michigan before a sold out crowd and the cameras of ABC-TV.

However, intercollegiate athletics competition for the University of Iowa actually kicks off Wednesday of Homecoming Week when Coach Rita Buck’s Hawkeyes entertain Northern Iowa at 7 p.m. inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The match is the first home competition of the 2003 season for Buck’s squad, and the first of three this week.

Iowa also entertains Illinois at 7 on Friday and Northwestern at 7:30 on Saturday in 2003 Big Ten competition.

Coach Carla Baker’s Iowa soccer team is also in action on campus this weekend. The Hawkeyes entertain Indiana on Friday in this year’s “Miracle Match,” a joint event staged by the Iowa Hawkeyes and UI Health Care with assistance from the Children’s Hospital of Iowa and the Children’s Miracle Network.

Spectators attending Friday’s soccer match could win one of five pairs of tickets to the Iowa football team’s home game against Minnesota to be given away.

Spectators attending this year’s Miracle Match are eligible to win some hot tickets: A pair of general public reserved seat tickets to the Iowa football team’s game against arch-rival Minnesota on Nov. 15. There will be five pairs of tickets given away at the soccer match.

Iowa’s soccer team returns to the Iowa Soccer Field on Sunday when the entertain the Purdue Boilermakers at 1 p.m.

Tickets to home Iowa volleyball matches cost $3 and are available at the doors of Carver-Hawkeye Arena on match night. There is no admission charge for Iowa soccer matches.
