PARRISH, FL – The University of Iowa women’s golf team shot a 54-hole total of 945 and finish the tournament in 13th place. Louisiana State took the team title with a score of 903. The Tigers won by just three strokes over Michigan State.
Leading the way for the Hawkeyes, tied for 13th place, was junior Shannon Fleming. Fleming fired a three-round total of 228. Junior Liz Bennett shot a 232, which was good enough to place her tied for 27th. Freshman Karla Murra finished 51st with a score of 241. Senior Laura Holmes posted a score of 244 to tie her for 55th. Freshman Virginie Bonfils came in 66th place after a score of 260.
Individually the tournament was won by a trio of golfers. Wisconsin’s Malinda Johnson, Texas A&M’s Christa Spedding and TCU’s Brooke Tull fired rounds of 220 to come away with the victory.
Iowa will compete next at the East/West Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, AZ. Competition will be from March 5-6.
