April 19, 2004

THIS WEEK — The Hawkeyes will travel to Akron, OH to compete in the First Energy Intercollegiate. The event is being hosted by the University of Akron at the Firestone Country Club. Saturday’s competition will include two rounds of play, followed by a final round on Sunday.

LAST WEEK — Last time out Iowa finished 14th at the Bruce Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, OH. The Hawkeyes shot a team season low three-round total of 918. Freshman Jon Feldick was the Hawkeyes’ top finisher, placing 12th with a 222 total. Feldick shot a personal spring season low 71 during the first round of play. “Jon is not usually a very patient player,” said head coach Terry Anderson. “It made me very proud to see him be patient and self-disciplined through the whole tournament.”

QUOTING COACH ANDERSON — “It is a real treat anytime we get to play at Firestone. The history of Akron and golf always makes for a very fun and exciting weekend. This field of teams features a lot of very good teams like Kent State, Toledo and Indiana to name a few. I’m looking for solid scores out of our top two guys, and hopefully some of that confidence will spread throughout the team.”

COACH Terry Anderson — Anderson is in his 11th year as Iowa’s head coach. Anderson lettered four times in golf at Iowa State. He also serves as the Director of Golf at Iowa’s Finkbine Golf Course. The Iowa Golf Association named him 1998 PGA Professional of the Year.
