COLUMBUS, OH – The University of Iowa women’s golf team shot a two-round total of 623 to finish the first day of the Big Ten Championships in eighth. All six Hawkeyes competing finished the day in the top 50 individually. The host Ohio State is currently in first with a score of 600. Leading the way for the Hawkeyes after the first round was junior Liz Bennett. Bennett fired a 36-hole total of 151, which ties her for sixth. Senior Laura Holmes carded a 154, which ties her for 16th. Junior Shannon Fleming shot a 178 to tie for 29th. Freshman Amy Riepma tied for 35th after carding a score of 162. Senior Jennifer Reints shot a two-round total of 163 to finish the day in a tie for 46th. Freshman Virginie Bonfils is tied for 50th with an 82. Individually the tournament is being led by Ohio State’s Allison Hannah and Wisconsin’s Malinda Johnson. Both shot opening day rounds of 145.
