Hamilton Qualifies for Finals

Austin, TX – Three members of the University of Iowa men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the 2004 NCAA championships on Thursday. Ken Kemeny competed in the shot put, Adam Hamilton threw in the hammer throw and Sarah Arens ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase.

Hamilton placed third in his heat and seventh overall in the preliminaries of the hammer with a season and career best throw of 208-11 (63.68 meters). His throw qualified him for the event finals and ranks third on Iowa’s all-time best list. Kemeny placed 15th in the shot put preliminaries with a toss of 59-5 ? (18.12 meters). His mark barely missed qualifying for the finals.

Sarah Arens placed 21st in the preliminaries of the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:40.08.

Competition at the 2004 NCAA track and field championships will continue on Friday.
