Day Three of NCAA Championships Complete

Austin, TX – Shellene Williams, Russ Peterson, Brad Daufeldt and Peaches Roach competed in the third day of competition at the 2004 NCAA track and field championships on Friday. Roach competed in the high jump finals, Daufeldt threw in the discus finals, Peterson ran in the 400-meter hurdles preliminaries and Williams competed in the 400 meter preliminaries.

Roach placed 11th in the high jump, tying a season-best mark of 5-11 ? (1.81 meters). Roach had an amazing freshman season, winning Big Ten Championships in the high jump at both the indoor and outdoor meets which gained her Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors. She placed 15th at the NCAA indoor championships as well.

Teammate Shellene Williams will end her successful Hawkeye career on Saturday in the 400 meter finals. Williams qualified for the finals on Friday with a time of 52.65. She placed third in her heat and has the eighth fastest qualifying time heading into the finals.

Russ Peterson finished the 400-meter hurdles in 53.16 and was unable to qualify for the finals. Brad Daufeldt placed sixth in his heat of the discus with a toss of 172-05 (52.56 meters) and finished 23rd overall.

Competition at the 2004 NCAA track and field championships will conclude on Saturday. Adam Hamilton will start competition in the hammer throw finals around 4:00 p.m. while Williams will compete in the 400 meter finals at 6:30 p.m. Live stats can be found at www.ncaasports.com.
