Hawkeyes Sign Recruit

IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa men’s track program has added another signee to its 2004 recruiting class. Head Coach Larry Wieczorek announced the signing of Aaron Reed, of Carpentersville, IL, to a national letter of intent.

Reed set school records in the long jump (24-0) and triple jump (47-6) and as part of 400-meter relay at Barrington High School. He placed second in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump at the 2004 state meet. He won the long jump conference title and long and triple jump sectional titles.

“We are very excited for Aaron to join our program,” said Wieczorek. “He is another outstanding young jumper. We’re looking for him to make an immediate impact on our program.”

Reed joins earlier signees Matt Gorman, of Gainesville, FL, Kale Katt, of Scott City, KS, and Eric MacTaggart, of Glen Ellyn, IL. Gorman won the long jump at the 2004 Florida state meet, and placed second in the triple and high jumps to lead Buchholz High School to the team title. His best marks are 6-6 in the high jump, 24-1 in the long jump and 50-2 in the triple jump. Katt won state titles in the shot put (57-5 1/4) and javelin (197-1) at the 2003 state meet. He also placed fourth in the discus and ninth in the 100 meters for Scott City High School. Katt is ranked in the top 10 nationally in the javelin. MacTaggart was a 2003 state qualifier in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters, placing fourth in the 3,200 meters. He placed fifth at the 2002 state cross country meet, helping Glenbard South High School to a team title. His best times are 4:17 in the 1,600 meters and 9:10 in the 3,200 meters.
