Diamonds on the Street

Sept. 3, 2004

Want to own Ironman Herky? The Diamond Collection – 15 additions to the very successful Herky on Parade program that celebrates the 75th anniversary of historic Kinnick Stadium by “Takin’ the Hawkeye Spirit to the Street” – were installed during the evening of Thursday, Sept. 2, in locations adjacent to and near the UI’s varsity football facility. Like the original 75 Herkys, the latest additions to Iowa’s longest running parade will first be available for purchase by their sponsor. Those that aren’t purchased outright by their sponsor will be included in a public auction scheduled for December. 14 of the 15 Diamond Collection Herkys have been installed. “Big Ten Conference Herky” will be installed next week. “The Diamond Collection will help us fill a `geographic void’ of Herkys that we realized after the installation of the first 75 was complete. We now have Herkys and the Herky on Parade program immediately adjacent to the very UI campus landmark that we’re celebrating,” said Rick Klatt, associate athletics director for external affairs. “The real heroes of Herky on Parade continue to be the artists. Their work again is simply outstanding,” Klatt added. For more information about Herky on Parade visit herkyonparade.com.
