Physicians from UI Sports Medicine already treat athletes in the NBA and Major League Baseball, as well as serving as the primary and orthopaedic physicians for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Now these same physicians are teaming up to make their services more convenient and easier to access for high school athletes, weekend warriors and recreational athletes, as well as people in the community interested in pursuing an active lifestyle. “We’ve assembled a multidisciplinary team of experts with experience that is unmatched in the area,” said Ned Amendola, M.D., medical director of the UI Sports Medicine Center and professor of orthopaedics and rehabilitation in the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine. “We are bringing high-end sports medicine to general consumers.” Orthopaedic surgeons, athletic trainers, primary care physicians, physician assistants and rehabilitation therapists will pool their expertise under UI Sports Medicine. Specialists will treat all musculoskeletal conditions and injuries including all sports-related medical problems. Treatment may include preventative measures, rehabilitation, exercise prescription, medical management or surgery, and all of it will be available through the center. The end goal is to efficiently assess and treat athletes, getting them back into action or physical activity safely and as soon as possible. Click HERE for the full story.
