LAWRENCE, KS – – The University of Iowa women’s golf team is in sixth place after 36 holes of the 11-team Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational played today on the par-72 Alvamar Golf and Country Club. Iowa (647) is only three strokes behind third place team Kansas State (644). Host school Kansas (630) leads the tournament by eight strokes over second place Iowa State (638).
Hawkeye senior Liz Bennett (Sway Hampshire, England) is in seventh place after carding a 157 (80-77). Sophomore Karla Murra (Sioux Falls, SD) is tied for 12th after firing a 160 (78-82). Freshman Jill Marcum (Clarinda, IA) is tied for 29th after stroking a 169 (81-88). Freshman Maggie Gelber (Winnetka, IL) is tied for 44th after shooting a 172 (89-93). Senior Lauren Cole (Eldridge, IA) carded a 174 (86-88), competing as an individual.
Final round action concludes tomorrow (Tuesday) with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
