TERRE HAUTE, IN – The Iowa men’s cross country team placed 12th at the NCAA Pre- Nationals meet Saturday afternoon hosted by Indiana State University on LaVern Gibson Championship Course. Iowa finished 12th out of 35 teams with 371 points in the men’s 8,000 meter white race. Stanford won the competition with 77 points.

Sophomore Micah VanDenend delivered Iowa’s top performance in the men’s race running 24:55:2 to finish 55th out of 242 runners. Freshman Eric MacTaggart finished just three seconds behind VanDendend in 24:58:5 placing 63rd. Senior Matt Esche was the third Hawkeye to cross the finish line, placing 68th in 25:01:7, and junior Dan Haut placed 77th in 25:08:8. Stanford’s Ryan Hall won the race in 23:54.4.

The Hawkeyes will take a week off from competition to train before they host the Big Ten Championships Saturday, October 31 at the Aston Cross Country Course.
