TERRE HAUTE, IN – The Iowa women’s cross country team placed 18th at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet Saturday afternoon hosted by Indiana State University on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course. Iowa competed against 36 teams and finished with 500 points in the 6,000 meter blue race. Stanford won the competition with 49 points.

Sophomore Nikki Chapple was the leading force in Iowa’s performance running 21:39:7 to finish 46th out of 252 runners. Fellow sophomore Shannon Stanley ran well placing 81st in 22:02:4. Freshman Meghan Armstrong and Racheal Marchand finished third and fourth for the Hawkeyes placing 101st in 22:11:6 and 130th 22:27.3. Sophomore Christine Kortorba finished 142nd in 25:08:8. Stanford’s Alicia Craig won the race in 20:20.4.

The Hawkeyes will take a week off from competition to train before they host the Big Ten Championships Saturday, October 31 at the Aston Cross Country Course.
