All good things must come to an end and that includes the public art project, Herky on Parade. So, if you were wondering what was going to happen with all those whimsical pieces of black-and-gold creativity that have dotted the Iowa City area landscape since early May, here’s the scoop…
Approximately 40 Herkys will be made available for purchase by the general public at the Herky on Parade Tailgate Party and Auction scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 16, at the Iowa Memorial Union on the UI campus. The tailgate party and bidding on silent auction items will begin at 6 p.m; the auction will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.
Proceeds from the Herky on Parade public auction will benefit the Johnson County Cultural Alliance and the Children’s Hospital of Iowa.

A comprehensive list of the Herkys that will be available in the auction will be announced in early November.
The cost of attending the event is $150. Individuals will receive tickets for two tailgate meals, one paddle to be used in the auction and one gift bag. Individuals who place the winning bid on a Herky will have $150 reduced from their final bid.
The UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will share proceeds from the auction with the Johnson Country Cultural Alliance, a not-for-profit organization that works on behalf of more than 45 groups and organizations that support art in greater Johnson County and the Children’s Hospital of Iowa and the Children’s Miracle Network.
