Get Off the Couch....

Dec. 2, 2004

OK, Hawk fans. If you’ve been waiting for a good reason or two to get off the couch and into Carver-Hawkeye Arena, here you go…

85, 76, 82, 92 and 91
That’s the number of points Coach Steve Alford’s squad has scored in their five games so far this season. Four of those totals have resulted in victories for the nationally ranked Hawkeyes. Iowa’s only loss so far in ’04-05 came against once No. 1 ranked North Carolina in the championship game of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

Get off the couch and into the Arena. Tickets to all home events of all three Iowa teams are currently available online at hawkeyesports.com, the UI Athletic Ticket Office in Carver-Hawkeye Arena, the Iowa City/Coralville Convention and Visitors Bureau information desk at Coral Ridge Mall, and at 1-800 IA-HAWKS.

Alford’s squad entertains Centenary, Southern Mississippi and North Carolina-Greensboro Friday and Saturday nights in the 2005 Gazette-Hawkeye Challenge. Iowa returns to the Arena next week for games against intrastate foes Northern Iowa and Iowa State.

5-0 and 2-for-2
Coach Lisa Bluder’s Iowa women’s basketball team is off to its best start in almost a decade, having registered its fifth straight win of the season last night in the Arena, defeating intrastate rival Iowa State, 89-80, in another event in the new Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series.

Iowa has also won both of the in-season tournaments they are schedule to play in 2004-05, claiming the 2005 KCRG-TV9 Hawkeye Challenge the opening weekend of the year and the Junkanoo Jam last week in the Bahamas. The Hawkeyes defeated nationally ranked Oklahoma in the championship game of that event.

Bluder’s Bunch entertains Northern Iowa Sunday at 2 p.m. and Marquette next Wednesday at the Arena.

53, 9 and 3
Coach Jim Zalesky’s Iowa wrestling team will be seeking win number 53 in its series against intrastate rival Iowa State in another event in the Cy-Hawk Series. The ninth-ranked Hawkeyes and third-ranked Cyclones square off on the mat at 6 p.m., Sunday, in Carver-Hawkeye.

Yes, it appears Carver-Hawkeye Arena is the place to be this winter. Get off the couch or out of the mall and be a part of the action.
