The Iowa men’s and women’s teams competed this weekend in the 14th Annual Iowa State Track & Field Classic. More than 1,000 athletes from over thirty schools competed in the two-day track event, including schools from the Big Ten, Big Twelve, and the South Eastern Conference.

Freshman Kineke Alexander was the only Hawkeye to score gold in the meet. Alexander won the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.11 and qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Sophomore Shane Maier also provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet with a toss of 58-6.5 in the shot put. Junior Adam Hamilton qualified in the weight throw with a toss of 65-11.75. Also, ten Iowa men and eleven women set new collegiate bests at the meet.

The Iowa women and men’s teams will host the Iowa Open on Friday, February 18. Field events will begin at 5 p.m. and running events are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
