Hawkeyes Compete At Big Ten Meet

THIS WEEK — The Iowa women’s track team will travel to Ann Arbor, MI, to compete in the 2005 Big Ten Indoor Championships Saturday and Sunday. All events will be held in the University of Michigan Indoor Track Building. Tickets are available from the Michigan Ticket Office (866-296-6849). Two-day ticket package are $12 for adults and $7 for senior citizens, college students w/ID and under 18. Daily ticket prices are $7 for adults and $4 for senior citizens, college students w/ID and under 18. Tickets will be sold on site each day at the northeast entrance to the Track Building.

LAST WEEK – The Hawkeye women’s and men’s track team hosted the Hawkeye Open in the Recreation Building. Also participating in the annual event were competitors from Coe College, Grinnell, Wartburg, and Washington University.

Two Iowa women were crowned champions in their respective events. Sarah Burgett won the pole vault when she cleared 11-6.25, which was also a new collegiate best for the sophomore. Freshman Jessica Schmidt won the mile and set a new collegiate best with a time of 5:13.67. The women’s 1,600-meter relay team of Lindsey McCalla, Monica Mims, Aditya Jones, and Erin Sheeley placed first with a time of 3:55.60.
