Crowley Named to Hall of Fame

IOWA CITY – Ed Crowley, former head athletic trainer for the University of Iowa Athletic Department, has been inducted into the Mid-America Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame. Crowley received the honor last weekend at the group’s annual meeting in Topeka, KS.

Crowley served as Iowa’s head athletic trainer for 31 years (1973-2004) before stepping down last summer. He was Iowa’s head football trainer under head coaches Frank Lauterbur, Bob Commings, Hayden Fry and Kirk Ferentz. Prior to becoming Iowa’s head trainer, he was an assistant at Iowa, Purdue and West Point.

In 1997, Crowley also received the Most Distinguished Trainer Award for major contributions to the National Athletic Training Association. He’s earned numerous other awards and recognition in the field of athletic training.

He is currently a physical therapist/athletic trainer in the University of Iowa Sports Medicine Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
