THIS WEEK — The women’s golf team travels to the state of Indiana to compete in the Indiana Invitational, April 2-3 in Bloomington. The 54-hole tournament will be played on the par-72 (6,142) Indiana University Golf Club. This marks the 22nd year the Hoosiers have played host to the event. Tournament play begins with 36 holes on Saturday and a 7 a.m. (CST) shotgun start. The final round will also be a 7 a.m. (CST) shotgun start on Sunday.
LIVE SCORING — Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament. Fans can follow the tournament live on the Internet at www.golftstatresults.com.
THE COMPETITION — The 19 teams competing include: Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Ferris State, Grand Valley, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, IPFW, Marshall, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Ohio, St. John’s, Toledo, Ark.-Little Rock, Indianapolis, Wisconsin and Xavier.
LINEUP — Competing for the Hawkeyes will be senior Liz Bennett; sophomores Karla Murra and Amy Riepma; and freshmen Melanie Boyles, Jill Marcum and Maggie Gelber. The lowest four scores will count towards the team score.
LAST COMPETITIONS — Iowa competed in two tournaments during its Florida Spring Break. The Hawkeyes tied for seventh in the 54-hole Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational. Senior Liz Bennett finished fifth in the tournament, carding an even-par 72 in the final round. Iowa placed fourth in the rain-shortened 18-hole Snowbird Invitational. Sophomore Amy Riepma paced the Hawkeyes, tying for ninth place.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Bobbe Carney — “I was pleased with our young players during qualifying last weekend and I think we should have a good tournament. This is going to be a large tournament field that includes a lot of Big Ten teams, which will prepare us for the Big Ten Championships at the end of the month.”
