COLUMBUS, OH – The University of Iowa Women’s Golf Team finished third this weekend in the 15-team Lady Buckeye Invitational played on the par-72 (6,201 yards) OSU Scarlet Golf Course. Iowa carded a 54-hole score of 903, including a second round score of 298. The Hawkeyes’ 54-hole score of 903 is its best of the year and ranks second in school history. Iowa fired an 896 on the very same course in the 1990 Lady Buckeye Invitational.
Michigan State (886) won this year’s tournament by nine strokes over Ohio State (895), who carded a 288 in the third round to slip past the Hawkeyes and finish in second place. The Buckeyes’ Lindsay Knowlton won the tournament, stroking a two-under par 214.
Iowa senior Liz Bennett paced the Hawkeyes stroking a nine-over par 224 and finished ninth. Her 54-hole score of 224 ranks 12th in Hawkeye history. Sophomores Amy Riepma and Karla Murra both tied for 20th place after shooting 15-over par (230). Freshman Jill Marcum and Shannon Fleming both tied for 29th (233), while freshman Maggie Gelber tied for 57th (244).
Iowa returns to action next weekend when the Hawkeyes compete in the Big Ten Championships Friday through Sunday in Ann Arbor, MI.
