Hawkeyes Sign Iowa Standout

May 19, 2005

University of Iowa Golf Coach Terry Anderson announced Cole Peevler has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Iowa.

Peevler is a two-time American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) all-American and four-time all-conference honoree. He medaled all four years at his conference and sectional tournaments.

The native of Keokuk finished first and tied the Keokuk Men’s City Tournament record in 2004. He also placed 14th-of-101 competitors in the AJGA Footjoy Boys Invitational held in Greensboro, NC, in 2004.

In 2003, he was the individual champion at the AJGA Midwest Players Championship, Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championship and Keokuk Country Club. Peevler earned first place honors four times in 2002, at the AJGA John Deere Junior Classic, Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championship, PGA Junior Golf Series and Keokuk Country Club.

“Cole has an opportunity to make an immediate impact,” said Anderson. “Sean McCarty (1991) was the last athlete of this caliber we have signed. Cole has competed and won on the national level and will be a tremendous addition to our program.”

Peevler joins junior college transfer Adam Fraser as a member of the 2005 recruiting class.
